Wearing garments that previous generations adorned provides me with a profound sense of belonging and attachment. One striking example is the patterned vest known as Waskat, which has been particularly popular in Hazarajat for centuries. Hazara women have skillfully crafted and worn this vest, incorporating a diverse array of designs and motifs inspired by the beauty of nature: the sun, stars, flowers, birds, and more. Each pattern within the Waskat carries a distinct meaning, and every stitch is an attempt to convey a story.
The vibrant, rhythmic lines and vivid colors may express passionate love, while abrupt distortions could signify heartrending betrayals and hardships. Collectively, these garments reflect our shared experiences and inherited understanding, passed down through generations. By donning my heritage, I aim to safeguard and honor this rich tradition, paying homage to the courageous and visionary women who played a vital role in shaping our community's unique identity.

والدین من هر دو مادرهایشان را در سال های اول جوانیشان از دست دادند. زمانی که کشور به مرحله جدی از جنگ رسید به کشوری مهاجرت کردند که به قطع برایشان خالی از هر عاطفه و مهم تر از همه مزار مادرهایشان بود. دلتنگی و حسرت عمیق آنها شکل پنهانی داشت اما در واقع دردی بود غیرقابل انکار.
بدیهی بود که مشکلات پیش آمده به عنوان مهاجران آمده از کشوری جنگ زده مجال بیان یا تامل به هیچ دردی را به آنها نداد. من کودک بودم که میدیدم بی توجه به هر دلتنگی و دردی میدویدند تا نسل بعد چیزی متفاوت و فارغ از غم را تجربه کنند. حالا با وجود سن و جسم جوانم والدینم هنوزم مرا کودکی خرد می دانند ولی هر بار که مرا در لباس های میراثی مادرانشان می بینند، نگاهشان با هر زمانی متفاوت است. چیزی آمیخته از حیرت، شادی، دلتنگی و غمی گم شده. انگار یک انعکاس یا خاطره قدیمی را به آنها نشان میدهم. تصویری لطیف، قابل لمس ، زیبا و امن که مدت ها بود ندانسته به دنبالش بودند.
ما هنوز هم در خاکی به دور از زادگاه والدینم زندگی میکنیم. دلتنگی های آنها هنوز هم پابرجاست چه بسا کهنه تر و سنگین تر ولی میراث دست دوز مادر بزرگم در جسم من تصویری را برای آنها زنده می‌کند به مساب خواب شیرین دیدار بعد از سال ها انتظار... آن لحظه و آن نگاه برای من همه چیز است دوستدارم بارها و بارها خلقش کنم.

Wearing my traditional clothes gives me a sense of identity and belonging. The more I learn about our history, the more I understand the significance of the patterns. To me, each line is a road map connecting me back to my roots and the land of my ancestors.
I love the hot pink. It’s so feminine and vibrant! My mom says, that when she was a young girl in Watan, she used to hand stitch her own “Chirmadozi waskat” and sang “Dubaiti” with her sisters and friends. Like her, many other young girls and women hand embroidered their clothes and sang Dubaiti. To me, that’s a whole nation of artists, poets, and musicians. I feel sad I didn’t get to experience any of that, but I can make up for it by wearing the beautiful Hazaragi clothes. Learn more about the Dr.

من واقعا علاقه مند یکجا کردن فرهنگ قدیم هزارگی و فرهنگ مدرن جدید در لباس ها هستم و میخواهم با پوشیدن لباس های هزارگی این یک بازآفرینی فرهنگ هزارگی شود و همچنان با پوشیدن لباس های خامک دوزی هزارگی مثل این واسکت قدیمی، به دیگرا خلاقیت و زحمتکشی خانم های هزاره را نشان بدهم که با دست شان چطور با ظرافت و خلاقیت این واسکت رادوختن.
